Experience

Phillippe has had considerable experience in the area of Odour Management.  Since 2001, he has managed an olfactometry laboratory in Paris, led the French Standardisation Committee for Dynamic Olfactometry, represented France at the European Standardisation Committee (CEN) and was one of the main advisors for the Minister of Environment in France for Odour Policies.

In 2008, Philippe opted for a new life in Australia with his family, and began his new role as odour expert at the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation of Western Australia (DWER WA). Through this position, Philippe has provided extensive technical expert advice and managed departmental investigations into some of the most contentious odour and air quality issues in the Perth area. He has led several projects in collaboration with various stakeholders related to odour monitoring, community engagement and the development of innovative approaches for odour assessments.

Based in Perth but working internationally, Philippe has accrued 20 years’ experience in odour and air quality assessment in France and in Australia from monitoring, process audit, data interpretation and dispersion modelling. He has carried out numerous projects involving composting and rendering plants, abattoirs, bitumen plants, livestock facilities, landfills, chemical facilities, cement production and wastewater treatment plants.

In both France and Australia, Phillippe continues to play an active role in odour policy and guidelines development. He has consulted with various stakeholders including industries, corporations and authority agencies, and his expert opinion is widely regarded by leading industry players as paramount in the field.

He has been invited as keynote speaker to international conferences and numerous workshop presentations in France and Australia on odour sampling, odour policy and management. Phillippe is a frequent peer-reviewer of policies and guidelines and often advises stakeholders in Europe, Chile, Canada and Malaysia. He is a lecturer at several universities in Western Australia and has lectured in French engineering schools and universities. He is also an active member of the Odour Special Interest Group of the Clean Air Society Australia and New Zealand (CASANZ).

On the side of consulting work, Philippe acts as expert witness for State Administrative Tribunal and court cases in Western Australia.
